Very possible Oilers get Cobourn.. just dont get the Flyers at all they will be paying 5 million to a 37 year old- dont they ever learn..As for Clarkson-he is the one player I can tell you will be going to Toronto- of course -assuming money being offered in similar..have this on good authority and he just built a home last year..

Why does Smid have to go anywhere? Klefboom is a puppy, that new Russian is a unproven KHL player, If we can keep Smid and get Coburn the world is a much happier place.

Currently the Flyers are over the cap by 300k. Flyers can still put Pronger and his 4.9mil cap hit on the LTIR. Meszaros and his 4mil cap hit is gonna get dumped somewhere. So i doubt the Coburn deal is back on the table just because of the Flyers cap issues.

true but they have to sign a goalie- any goalie of any substance would be between 2 and 4 million- unless you want to start Mason..

Coburn was just some window dressing we threw your way when we thought you had some picks we wanted...Now you have nothing we need...

Even if Coburn to Edmonton is more likely because the flyers need cap room, there is no way Smid is going the other way unless the piece going with him is HUGE or Edmonton eats half the contract. 1M is not enough relief to deal away the best player.

I think he's one of the few "assets" they can trade......and actually get something tangible in return for him.

now the flyers HAVE to deal Coburn as their cap is a mess. they must need cap space.
so we'll give them smid @3.5 and take [email protected]

They will sign a goalie my best guess it will be Tim Thomas at 2mil. Even if they trade for Halak his cap hit is only 3.75mil. Plus now the Flyers have a logjam at Center i expect them to move Max Talbot possibly back to the Pens.


I don't exactly hate this deal but i would've prefer they sign a winger.

Why would the Flyers buyout Briere if they were just going to sign another deal with a different aging star? Granted there is two million difference in the cap hit but it's not like there is THAT much of a difference. Holmgren is lucky to have a job. Carter and Richards sure look like bargains now.


Edit: And I would not include Paajarvi in a deal for Coburn. Coburn is worth even less now than he was at the draft due to the Flyers cap situation.

why deal Coburn for only a mil of savings?
why deal smid when we already have zero depth?

it'll be picks/prospects/ cheaper young player or nothing
